Once Upon A Saturday

It was Saturday and I didn't have to work. Kara and I had some shopping planned and... *yaaaaaaaaawn. We didn't need to be up at the crack of dawn to do that, or anything.

So at eight-thirty I stumbled out of bed, shared a few words of wisdom with Kara, thwump-thwump-thwumped downstairs and sagged into our easy chair. It's usually fifteen-or-so minutes before I can bring myself to speak, most I like to give myself a second or two to let all three and a half cylinders sputter to a start. ;)

Suddenly, I was informed that we were going out to breakfast. "Sunshine Café," huh?

"Sunshine," when in relation to "Good morning" or "Alarm Clock" or "Breakfast Time" is, to put it lightly, NOT. MY. FAVORITE. But I decided to go.

Thankfully the restaurant owners didn't give a second glance to the knot of curly frizz on top of my head, or my over-sized, comfortable sleeping garb. The waiter sat me right down and placed a menu in the middle of the table.

Our party was sitting right in front of the kitchen doors, so I could hear quite a commotion while they fixed our order.

"I NEED A SPATULA! I can't flip eggs. Elise, can you flip eggs?"

There was a sudden gasp and the unmistakable, wet, crack of a raw egg hitting the floor.

No one said a word.

"Where's the Cranberry sauce?"

At one point our waiter came out of the kitchen and asked Mom if she knew where the Cranberry Sauce ((leftover Cranberry Salad from Thanksgiving)) was.

I had ordered a fried egg with a runny yoke, some pomegranate and a water. Lo and behold, here comes my order...with half a pomegranate plunked efficiently on my plate.

I should have ordered it "de-seeded."
The staff was adorable, though, and after they had served our breakfast, they brought theirs out, too. Together, we enjoyed our food at "Sunshine Café". I even left a tip.
