How To Conquer The "Worst Day Ever"

It may start when you stub your toe on the baseboard. Maybe it's because somebody is creating a bad atmosphere. Maybe it's when you realize that you just don't like the skirt that you finally finished...maybe it's because you haven't had enough sleep for the last three days and everything is going wrong. Maybe today's a bad hair day and you burned the cookies. Maybe you looked in the mirror and saw something you didn't like or (girls) your hormones are going haywire. It all happens. To all of us. And, sometimes...

As this and that and everything in between crumbles at our feet, we sag beneath our wilting spirits, into a puddle of tears. When we finally pull ourselves, sopping and glum, out of it, we snap at whoever is standing nearest (not literally, but you know what I mean) and release the storm on them.

As time progresses, we allow this storm to seep into the atmosphere...and bit by bit, unsuspecting bystanders are sucked into the whirling tornado that steadily grows larger inside the building.

Finally, your day has gone from awful, to "The most horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad day" that you have ever experienced. Everybody is upset at each other, or hiding their smoldering grouchiness with a choked-out-trying-to-be-nice-response... and everything seems upside down.

What can you do?

There's eight (I exaggerate) subjects left to finish, your lunch chores aren't done yet, Dad's coming home in fifteen minutes and the rooms you're supposed to have cleaned are a disaster...and there will be no rest for the weary when all of that's finished, either. You're babysitting three small children tonight.

This is what you can do. Stop what you're doing and call a prayer-meeting to order. It can be a quick, silent prayer as you're sweeping the floor, it can be a long prayer by the side of your bed, it can be a prayer in the living room of the house, with all of your family members surrounding. However you do it, ask forgiveness - let His blood cleanse you. Ask for joy - even when you can't imagine how it can come with all of these unpleasant things hanging over your head. Ask for peace - though the storm may be rolling all around and inside of you, and it seems impossible. Ask for love for those around you - even when they're still stomping on your very last nerve. Claim patience. Ask Him to create the right atmosphere through you. Claim what you asked for and walk into your victory.

"Cast your cares upon Him, for He careth for you."

It's as simple as that. When it looks like it could never happen, remember to claim God's promises "Ask and ye shall receive" and "Ask anything in my name and I'll do it". Thank the Lord for the victory that's coming. Watch as peace is restored and joy comes out of nowhere. He answers.

"Ask much that your joy may be full."

Prayer... what a special gift we have! Have many times have I been frustrated or been having a terrible, awful, no good, very bad day, and I simply stop. Lifting up a heart of prayer to my Father... and suddenly those annoying things simply seem to disappear.

Thank you for this much needed reminder. ;)

Blessings,

Sounds rather too familiar for comfort. ;)

But it's amazing how something so obvious as prayer is often the last thing I think of. And then when I do pray, I ask myself why I didn't do it in the first place.
