Somebody, somewhere is probably turning to stare at the wall and is thinking; "Oh. Yeah, right..."
It's hard to understand them sometimes. What they do. How they can be your friend for a long time and then slowly dwindle out of touch. How they can suddenly be so hurtful, when they've blessed you for so long. How they can just walk out in the blink of an eye.
For a long time I wondered about them. I could have gotten angry (and did, at least, become frustrated) but I knew that God had a reason for the ones that walked in and walked out, the ones that hurt, the ones that left scars.
That is reason enough.
Still though, I didn't know how people could do what they did. How they could be so cruel sometimes.
I've spent a lot of time wondering about it, and finally, among other things, I think a big part of the answer is simple selfishness.
Human instinct always shouts "me first!" when it comes to anything. It's there dancing around in your mind when you have to share a bag of candy with your five family members. It's there jumping on your most painful spot when somebody puts you last. It's screaming hateful things at the people who've hurt you..."Because they're too selfish to look at me think of what they're causing me to go through."
You don't have to listen to it though. God is way bigger than your Selfishness.
People are frustrating. We all know it. But, if we truly weren't selfish and truly loved one another, would be we furious that "she doesn't want to be friends anymore" or "she didn't do such-and-such for me even though I did it for her?"
If we really love them, unselfishly, wouldn't we want them to be happy even if it grieved us?
God has a purpose for people that come into your life. Even the friend that turned her back on you, or the sister who holds you in disdain. He loved you enough to die for you. He said "Not my will but yours be done" because of you. Don't you think, then, that you can trust His word that says "All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose?" Can you believe that even the trials - the people that come into your life - come to fulfil His purpose for ultimate perfection? Can you trust Him and let Him have His way with you?
He's trustworthy. You can.

I've often wondered the same thing, but I'll admit that I've hurt many others from my selfishness.
